What is Spain's Ley 1/2025 food waste law?+
Ley 1/2025 is the Spanish food waste prevention law (BOE-A-2025-6597), in force since April 2, 2025. Article 6, covering the hierarchy of surplus management, applies from April 2, 2026. Penalties range from €2,000 (minor) to €500,000 (very serious infringements). Establishments over 1,300 m² must maintain a Prevention Plan (PPDA). Smaller businesses must demonstrate compliance with the surplus hierarchy to inspectors.
